Our blanks

We use Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam blanks which we make ourselves from large blocks of EPS.

You can see in this close up photo of the nose of a board sitting on a rack, where the EPS foam is and where the Polyurethane (PU) foam rails are. If you look closely you can see the higher density PU rails. The EPS foam is not as high density, so it doesn't look quite as good as PU foam, the result being that if we tint in the resin it can look a bit blotchy. This is why most Epoxy boards have pigment in the resin - it covers the inconsistency in the look of the foam. The custom artwork by Murray Ceff is done on special material which is laminated over the foam and completely covers the EPS foam. If we do a timber laminate that completely covers it too, of course.

Here you can see one of our shapers, Darren Dickson, at work shaping a 9' Wave Stealer with V gluelines and PU rails stopping at the front of the side fins
