We have one of the best shapers in Torquay, Australia, just waiting to shape his next masterpeice for you. We absolutely guarantee that you will be satisfied with your custom board. If not we will take it back as a trade-in on another custom board. Our shaper will not shape a bad board. He has shaped literally thousands of boards. If the custom board you get does not suit your particular style (but we will make every effort to ensure that it does) we will re-design a board for you. You must remember of course that in taking your original custom board back as a trade-in, the price we give you will vary on the condition of the board, but assuming it is still in perfect condition, we will give you up to 62% of the original purchase price. We are like any business - to survive we have to make money, and if we trade a board back in we need to then be able to re-sell it at a profit. But at the end of the day, this hardly ever happens! (taking a trade-in that is - everyone loves their custom boards!)
Our custom epoxy boards are all hand made originals, made completely in Australia . A lot of epoxy boards on the market are factory popouts. Not ours. Factory popouts have two advantages. One, they are cheap. Two, each unit of each model made is identical. We are firm believers in the individuality of the surfer. Even if two surfers had near identical physical characteristics (height, weight etc.) they may still have quite different surfing styles. A board that suits one surfer just needs to be tweeked a little to make it just right for another surfer. Over the 35 years I have been surfing, I have occasionally owned a board that was just "me". I did not have to think about how the board would respond. It would just respond exactly as I wanted it to. But that board may not have suited every wave I surfed and it did not last forever. I eventually wanted a change. And dealing with a local board manufacturer enables you to get just the right board for you!
Another important point. The popout type epoxy boards often don't have a stringer. We will use stringers at your request. For a really super strong board you can't beat our unique twin V stringer setup. but if you want lots of flex, we do a Twin V glue line instead. Your choice! Anyway there is a lot less chance of bending or breaking your board!
Why epoxy resin? The construction method with our epoxy boards is very similar to the traditional board. Our high density EPS blanks are lighter and stronger than standard polyurethane blanks and we usually use 3x6oz on the deck and 2x6oz on the bottom. If requested we can also use timber veneers which enhance both the strength and the asthetic appeal of your board.
Epoxy boards are not indestructible, but they are more resistant to dings than standard boards. So dings from the typical knocks a board gets being handled out of the water are a thing of the past. The EPS foam is much more enviro friendly, but should be taken out of the water if you get a ding. The clear epoxy resin has UV inhibitors to increase the life expectancy of the board. Using epoxy resin is also a healthier choice for workers in the fibreglass industry. It gives off less fumes than polyester resins. You can expect to get many years of service from your board and still have a good resale value on it when it is time to say good-bye. We do not believe in disposable surfboards. Our polystyrene blanks are more environmentally friendly than standard blanks to, both in the manufacturing and in shaping. As much excess as possible is recycled. We even gather excess material from other local manufacturers for recycling.
Environmentally Friendly Surfboard Construction
- EPS foam blank
- PU rails (patented method) Firstly we shape the board from an EPS blank. We then saw off the rails (which are sent overseas for melting down) and glue on recycled PU offcuts from other shapers and glue the PU foam rails on to the board. These offcuts would nomrmally just end up as landfill. Then we re-shape the rails. This increases ding resistance (as the PU is higher density), plus we are doing the environment a favour.
- Glass - 3 layers on deck, 2 layers on bottom
- Colour job - custom artwork by Murray Ceff. You can choose your own colours and basic pattern and Murray does the rest. Totally original, no two boards are the same. This method is also very environmentally friendly. No sprays are used and there is virtually zero waste in the process.

- Timber inlays. We can also do timber laminate inlays, if you want too. These look really cool, but also add to the strength and depression resistance, particularly in the deck.
