Dicko (some people call him Darren, like his wife when he's in trouble) has been shaping boards since the early 90's. In that time he has shaped literally thousands of boards. But Dicko is not a human shaping machine, having cutback in recent times to only doing a couple of boards a day. Dicko is an artist. I have never seen two Dicko surfboards that are identical. Similar yes, but not identical. If you want an "identical" to what your buddies are riding, you want a factory popout from Asia, not one of Dickos hand crafted masterpieces.

Dick grew up on the family farm near Steiglitz, a tiny gold mining town in between Geelong and Ballarat. When the surfing bug bit, it bit big time though. Dicko tells the story of how he kept fit when he first started surfing. "I used to paddle the board in the dam. Couldn't paddle far, but it was enough to keep me fit for when I did get to the beach". It wasn't too long of course before hit the coast to indulge in the surfing lifestyle.

Being tutored by some of the nations top shapers, Dicko developed his own unique style and has an uncanny eye for what will work in a surfboard. Dicko has a loyal following in Torquay. A lot of the guys who sell the big brands in the well known shops in Torquay come to Dicko for a board. You will see his boards are different. Sure he can shape you a high performance shorty like the pros use, but Dicko knows that a for a lot of people, that is not the sort of board that will be best for them.
